A Ryerson University graduate (Class of 2021) with a bachelor's in Fashion Design Communications. I work in multidisciplinary art mediums that diversify my work in visual communications: fashion design, graphic apparel design, illustration, and creative direction. My background in the arts has been pivotal in shaping how I approach design, allowing me to develop my unique perspective on design, and providing an uncommon versatility to my work.

 

In addition to my design work, I bring over 10 years of experience as a luxury retail and client-based stylist. Over time, I expanded my role into media-specific events such as talk shows, reality TV appearances and influential promoters. I curated distinctive looks aligned with brand aesthetics while resonating with diverse audiences. I collaborated with SHAN for over 7 years joining their team as a stylist with my preexisting roster of clients and eventually became a collaborator in various creative pursuits. Over the years I provided garment design and manufacturing feedback and due to my previous experience, helped in strategically employing their expansion into ready-to-wear.

 

My thoroughly diverse skill set in fashion is a testament to the professional reputation I’ve cultivated over more than a decade of work. Throughout my career, I’ve built strong, lasting relationships within the industry, and I’m proud to say that I have multiple references (available upon request) that can attest to this. These individuals are more than willing to provide any necessary accreditation to support the work I’ve done and the dedication I bring to every project.

 

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with high-end retailers and brands, honing my expertise and accretion of client and consumer collaboration. This established the foundation that led me to launch Jennifer Shorten Designs in 2019 and a part-time freelance job, eventually becoming my full-time position in 2024. I am proficient in a variety of design applications, including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, and Photoshop. My skill set extends to technical and pattern design, web design, and basic coding.
